An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Actuarial Trainee to join the actuarial function. This position is ideally suited to a highly numerate graduate holding a degree in mathematics or a related discipline. Working as part of a small team, but with the autonomy to undertake independent tasks, the successful candidate will contribute to a variety of functions including pricing, product development, regulatory and internal reporting, and liability modelling. The role also provides scope for involvement in wider actuarial and cross-functional projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Support external reporting processes through the preparation of actuarial valuations in line with professional standards and timescales
- Assist with internal financial reporting, including conducting experience investigations in accordance with agreed methodologies
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of actuarial liability models, including validating data extraction routines and maintaining documentation
- Maintain and enhance illustration systems used for product representation
- Provide actuarial input to pricing and product development activities
- Support the delivery of project-based actuarial work as required
Skills & Experience Required
- Honours degree (minimum upper second class) in mathematics or a related subject with demonstrated academic excellence
- Eligibility to join the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries as a student member (or equivalent professional body), or current membership thereof
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with VBA is advantageous
- Strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders across all levels
- Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce high-quality reports
